A 22-CD collection of Harry Nilsson rarities from the famed Purple Chick. Long time fans (and readers here) will recognize a lot of this stuff already, as most of it has been posted here for years. But, there are some new, uncirculated rarities that have yet to be heard included in this series, not to mention probable sound upgrades on some material. The links below include all of the details for each 2-CD set, which you can download in mp3 or flac (though, flac fanatics should know that numerous tracks are sourced directly from our own 320 mp3s). The original bit torrent link is HERE for those that don't mind waiting days for their 22CD download to complete.

This is a great introduction to alternate Harry for someone like me -- and Purple Chick always does a stellar job putting their sets together.

Thanks, Harry, for making this available!

It just came out Gummo. Haven't even had the time to listen myself (given all the Blogger drama). I wouldn't call this an introduction though. It's really almost ALL of Harry's rarities, so there's naturally going to be a lot of stuff that's strictly "for fans only." That said, we've been kicking around the idea of gathering all of the FTLOH rarities together in one place for years... and this comes close to doing that. Thanks for stopping by.

The documentary awakened a real interest in me in Harry's work -- I had always been aware of him as songwriter and pop singer, but he had always seemed a little too "pop" for me; after seeing the doc, I went out and got Nilsson Schmillson, Personal Best and revisited that dear old friend, The Point.

But yes, "introduction" may have been the wrong word. Let me say instead that I have sampled various Harry rarities here on your blog before and really enjoyed them, but having them available in best quality in chrono order makes it much easier to pick out what interests me, and of course Purple Chick always does a stellar job.

I can only wish that the next revision to this series includes the 1968 "You Are Here" demo that was heard in the documentary but still remains solely in the hands of the Una Nilsson and John Scheinfeld.

I think Chick included the clip from the film, I just haven't had the time to listen to everything yet.

Sorry Gummo... didn't mean to force you to be so precise. But, you're dead on. Having it all in one place does make it easy. The Point happens to be a dear old friend of mine, too.

Wow! I've been waiting for an update and this one knocked my socks off. If only I wasn't at work and could start downloading now...

Man-o-man I can't wait to get home! Thanks for sharing Willard!

Some of these alternate mixes are ruddy incredible. Listen to the Duit It On Mon Dei mix when you can, it's great. Thanks so much, Willard!

Thanks Sam. Trust me, I will.

It has been years since I listened to Harry. I have all his albums, but when he ceased regularly producing albums I gravitated to other artists. It is the old out of sight out of mind syndrome. Then I happened upon a reference to your blog on some other music site and thought I would take a look. Glad I did. Very glad. It is like meeting up with a very dear old friend that I have not seen in years. Your site is just so chock-full of stuff I am not sure how I will manage to take it all in and still have time for work and family. And then you added Purple Chick. Thanks a lot. Now I will probably get fired and divorced!

A wonderful collection with loads of nice surprises! The last couple of CDs show that Harry hadnt lost any of the sublime skills we all knew he had. Im sure there is an album in there somewhere. Nice to have (almost) everything in one place. Its a shame the liner notes run out after "A Liitle Son Of Schessions....". Any chance of them being uploaded at some time?

Willard said...

Thanks for the note. All the liners and covers that came with the set are already included.

Well, slowly but surely I am figuring out which ones I want to keep. There's some wonderful stuff here....

I just came across Son Of Harrities and thought I'd check here for a review since I've seen more Harry rarities here than anywhere else. So far as I've read this new collection while putting so much into one package has not inspired comment that there was something missing from this excellent blog that has now been uncovered. Would I be correct in that assumption or am I really missing out? Harry is in my top 5 favourites of all time and I've turned a lot of people on to him. Thank you kindly for your very worthy efforts to date.

Were the wrong versions of "The La La Song" and "There Will Never Be" used on the first disc?

There was an early version of the old Harryties set on which "The La La Song" faded a minute early, and "There Will Never Be" was poorly transferred.

Then there was a second version which fixed both of these problems.

This new set seems to return to the old versions. I can't imagine that was a deliberate move.

Willard said...

You'll have to ask PC about that. The discs are as we got them.

Thank you so so much !!!
Amazing, really amzing.
I had the old serie of Harryties and remember how difficult it was to get one of them. With all the CD sharing and everything...
Now here it is, with much more material, much quality... and all of this with just a click.

Th'at's a great job to compile all this. And with the artwork and notes that it sadly missed at that time (no way to know where a song came from...). I don't know if ther existed but I didn't get any.

Anyway, thanx to all the fans involved in all this, to Purple Chick to package so marvelously, and to you, Willard to offer us in your so beautiful and indispensable site (I'm not sure if it's the right word in english, sorry ...but it is in french)

Hope I will not get an indigestion with all this goodies.

If this Purple Chick really is a chick how I'd love to treat her to a night out on the town drinking Brandy Alexanders from bar to bar as we get kicked out for singing Randy Newman songs louder and louder. She's earned it. This stuff is tops. Pure medicine.
