Harry's complete TV sitcom debut on The Ghost & Mrs Muir, from March, 1969. For years, we video watchers have had only the fuzzy YouTube clip of Harry's three short musical performances. But, in fact, Harry is featured throughout virtually the entire show. He first appears at about 6:30 (above), when he's seen camping on the beach with his "manager," who's busy trying to sell Harry's character, Tim Seagirt, on the idea of commercializing his music. Comedic situations bring the pair into the Muir household, and in direct contact with the icon, Charles Nelson Reilly. Beyond the opportunity to see Nilsson in his boxers, Harry sits down to lip-sync to an unreleased acoustic version of "Without Her" (@ 12:05) and later, two versions of the 'ghost-written,' "If Only." Despite the show's generally routine sitcom quality, Harry spoke dismissively of this appearance, pinning it, ironically, on his manager. It's still fun to see Harry doing something he was never known for... acting (see Skidoo, where he makes a quick cameo as a tower guard, and the feature length movie, Son Of Dracula). Coincidentally, or not, the show's music supervisor is Lionel Newman (Randy's uncle). Thanks once again to sds910 for this great share. As usual with Blogger videos, after clicking play, you may have to toggle the slider to jump start the player.
Nifty compact mp3s of Harry's pre-taped musical segments from The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, including an otherwise unreleased composition by Nilsson & Bill Martin (who's all over Harry), with lyrics by the show's Tom August (Part 2, above). The (Comic, Piano Version) is played for laughs, but the acoustic reading confirms it would be nice to have a full version. Get them all HERE.
Without Her (Acoustic) (1:17)
If Only (Acoustic) (1:11)
