Make no mistake. This is NEWMAN Sings Nilsson Sings Newman - a set of Randy Newman's recordings inspired by Harry Nilsson's 1970 LP Nilsson Sings Newman. Many of these Newman recordings come from the 1968 album Randy Newman, but other Randy albums are represented, as well (12 Songs, Sail Away, Little Criminals and the box set Guilty: 30 Years Of Randy Newman). There is one hitch, however. Randy never recorded his own song "Caroline," which is on Nilsson Sings Newman. So, for the sake of flow and consistency, we've included Nilsson's own Nilsson Sings Newman version here on Newman Sings Nilsson Sings Newman. Confused yet? Technical note: The sound quality on Randy's "Vine Street (Demo)" is a bit challenged.
Randy Newman Vine Street (Demo) (Guilty Box Set)
Randy Newman Love Story (You and Me) (Randy Newman)
Randy Newman Yellow Man (12 Songs)
Harry Nilsson Caroline (Nilsson Sings Newman)
Randy Newman Cowboy (Randy Newman)
Randy Newman The Beehive State (Randy Newman)
Randy Newman I'll Be Home (Little Criminals)
Randy Newman Living Without You (Randy Newman)

I love you Man.
I love Nilsson, but I can't stand Randy Newman. I just don't see the appeal. Thnaks anyway though.
Funny, dave-- i came to same conclusion! wasn't sure it was kosher or gracious sharing [shall we start a club].
Harry's tribute lp & that paul williams story illustrates how HE felt, but try as we may, some of us get the 'elvis costello hives' from RN's singing, that forced-constricted throat action... the writing is another matter.
one thing i really dig is Vine Street, V D Parks' version and others---so flowing unrepetitiously, cinematic/synesthetic... minimal musical touches fleshing the scenes
I discovered Randy through Harry and, for me, these two men are forever sealed in my mind and in my soul.
I bought the albums of Randy one after another searching the songs Harry sang though his own albums (including songs like Simon Smith And The Amazing Dancing Bear or Sail Away that are just marvelous)
These two men are genious in their own ways. I really understand Harry when he admired so much Randy's work.
Maybe as Jimi Hendrix loved Bob Dylan, with infinite respect.
